Small State, Big Romance: Rhode Island Ranked #1 for the Most Romantic Destination in the U.S.

When it comes to romance, bigger isn’t always better.

In fact, a recent national study has named Rhode Island the most romantic vacation destination in the United States — proving that the smallest state delivers some of the most unforgettable love stories.

The analysis, conducted by The Resorts Collection and shared with Travel + Leisure, didn’t rely on travel brochures or promotional campaigns. Instead, researchers examined millions of real Tripadvisor reviews to see how often travelers organically used the word “romantic” when describing their experiences.

The results? Rhode Island led the nation.

Across hotels, restaurants, landmarks, parks, and coastal attractions, visitors consistently described their stays here as romantic. Hotel reviews referenced romance at rates more than 50% higher than the national average. Even more striking, Rhode Island’s parks and nature destinations exceeded the national benchmark by over 90%.

The takeaway is simple: couples aren’t responding to marketing — they’re responding to atmosphere.

From Newport’s historic architecture and sweeping waterfront views to candlelit dinners and quiet shoreline walks, Rhode Island creates the kind of setting where people naturally slow down and savor time together.

Newport, in particular, plays a starring role. The Gilded Age mansions, sailboats drifting through the harbor, iconic lighthouses, and elegant coastal dining experiences all contribute to an environment that feels intimate, timeless, and meaningful.

For couples planning a proposal, engagement getaway, or waterfront wedding celebration at OceanCliff Hotel & Regatta Place, this recognition feels especially fitting. Romance here isn’t manufactured — it’s part of the landscape.

While states like Texas, Washington, and New York followed behind in the rankings, Rhode Island stood alone at the top. At the other end of the list was Montana, with the fewest romance-related mentions nationwide.

But for those who have watched the sun set over Narragansett Bay, celebrated milestones along Newport’s shoreline, or said “I do” with the harbor as their backdrop, the news comes as no surprise.

Romance isn’t about square mileage.

It’s about the feeling you get when everything else fades into the background — and the moment feels entirely your own.

At OceanCliff Hotel & Regatta Place, that feeling is always in season.

Where Cloud Dancer Meets the Coast: Wedding Inspiration from the 2026 Pantone Color of the Year

This year Pantone surprised the design world by naming a shade of white its Color of the Year: Cloud Dancer (PANTONE 11-4201) — a billowy, balanced white that reads as calm, clean, and quietly luxurious. It’s a hue meant to create a sense of clarity and renewal. At Regatta Place, where the water, sky, and sunset are the backdrop to every celebration, Cloud Dancer feels utterly at home.

Why cloud white works for waterfront weddings

Cloud Dancer isn’t clinical or stark — it’s a warm, lived-in white that plays beautifully with natural light, salt air, and coastal textures. At our docks and tented receptions, this shade acts like a blank, luminous canvas that amplifies the ocean view and makes seasonal accents — from driftwood to dried grasses — feel refined and elegant. Architectural Digest+1

How to use cloud dancer at Regatta Place

1. Ceremony & altar
Dress your ceremony space in Cloud Dancer linens or a soft white runner and let the ocean be the focal point. White floral arches, delicate sheer draping, and simple wooden benches grounded with natural rope or jute speak to coastal minimalism while keeping the moment luminous.

2. Reception tent styling
Opt for Cloud Dancer tablecloths or sheer overlays and layer with texture: raw-edge linen napkins, driftwood chargers, and tactile crockery. The white base keeps the tent feeling open and airy even as the evening warms into golden light.

3. Brides & bridemaids
Cloud Dancer opens a fresh direction beyond traditional white gowns: think off-white, softly textured fabrics, or lace with a subtle warm undertone. Bridesmaids can wear muted neutrals (sage, soft sand, or dove gray) to create an elegant tonal story that complements the venue rather than competes with it.

4. Florals & texture
Dried pampas, bleached palms, white garden roses, and soft-green eucalyptus look spectacular against Cloud Dancer backdrops. Use varied heights and tactile materials to add depth without heavy color shifts.

5. Stationery & signage
Cloud Dancer invites high-contrast, thoughtful typography: cream stock with charcoal or warm bronze lettering, or white envelopes with a unique texture or watermark for a refined tactile reveal.

6. Lighting & atmosphere
A white palette is a masterclass in light. Let warm candlelight, string lights, and low-watt lanterns introduce warmth at dusk; the white panels and linens will reflect and amplify that glow, giving reception photos a timeless, cinematic quality.

Palette pairings

Cloud Dancer is the perfect neutral anchor. Try these elevated pairings:

  • soft sand + driftwood brown — for grounded coastal warmth.
  • sage green + muted blue — for an organic, seaside garden mood.
  • champagne or antique gold — for subtle metallic accents and candlelight glamour.
  • charcoal or deep navy — for crisp contrast and classic nautical notes.

Final thought — a blank canvas with meaning

Choosing Cloud Dancer isn’t about erasing color; it’s about choosing calm, presence, and subtle refinement. At Regatta Place, where each wedding is framed by sea and sky, this soft white functions as a thoughtful canvas that elevates the moments that matter most—first looks, vows, and the quiet exchanges in between. If you’re dreaming of a wedding that feels luminous, timeless, and deeply you, Cloud Dancer offers a modern yet soulful direction.

In Full Bloom: Wedding Inspo We’re Loving from The Newport Flower Show

This past weekend, Newport was in full bloom—literally. The 2025 Newport Flower Show, held at the iconic Rosecliff Mansion, was the place to be for floral fanatics, design lovers, and anyone dreaming up a stunning wedding day. The theme? “A Floral Fair”—and let’s just say, it was the kind of magic we wish we could bottle up and bring straight to the aisle.

Where Gilded Age Glamour Met Whimsical Romance

Inside Rosecliff’s grand halls, floral designers and botanical artists pulled inspiration from the mansion’s glamorous past, especially a 1913 fairy tale-themed dinner party hosted by Rosecliff’s original owner, Theresa Fair Oelrichs. Think: enchanting tablescapes, gilded accents, and dreamy blooms that looked like they were lifted from a storybook garden.

As wedding pros, we couldn’t help but see serious ceremony and reception inspo in the design details—soft pastel palettes, climbing florals, and lush romantic textures that feel right at home in a Regatta Place tented soirée or a seaside cocktail hour.

Summer Fair, But Make It Chic

Adding a playful twist, the first floor of the mansion gave us a burst of color and charm with cheerful county fair-inspired arrangements. Imagine bold blooms, creative displays, and unexpected pairings that felt modern, fun, and wildly Pinterest-worthy. If you’re a couple who loves a pop of color or wants to bring a whimsical touch to your floral vision, this was your moment.

Alfresco Vibes on the Ocean Lawn

Out on the lawn, the Flower Show continued in full force with horticulture competitions and garden installations—set against Rosecliff’s swoon-worthy Atlantic Ocean backdrop (yes, it’s giving major Regatta Place energy). Local garden clubs and talented amateur designers showcased vibrant cut flowers and inspiring outdoor displays. From lush wildflower moments to polished English garden looks, it was a fresh-air dream full of ideas for ceremony backdrops, photo ops, and reception details.

Don’t Skip the Stems—and the Shops

After taking in all that beauty, guests flocked to the Marketplace, where curated vendors offered everything from floral decor and garden gifts to timeless pieces from the Newport Mansions Stores. Whether you’re shopping for your wedding, your home, or just a little treat-yourself moment, it was retail therapy with serious style.

Floral Color Trends Defining Summer Weddings in 2025

A Blooming Celebration of Style and Color.

As we look ahead to summer 2025, one thing is clear: weddings are bursting into full bloom with some of the most stunning floral trends we’ve seen in years. This season, floristry is all about personality, natural elegance, and a touch of the unexpected.

Bold romantics will fall in love with deep reds that bring passion and drama to bouquets and centerpieces. For those drawn to timeless beauty, the classic pairing of crisp white and lush greenery remains a go-to choice, offering effortless sophistication and balance.

But this summer also invites a bit of fun. Citrus-inspired hues—think zesty oranges and sunny yellows—are making playful appearances, perfect for couples looking to add vibrancy and energy to their day. At the other end of the spectrum, rich violets are adding depth and a luxe quality to floral arrangements.

For lovers of understated elegance, soft pinks and muted beiges continue to enchant with their vintage charm and dreamlike feel. These romantic tones are ideal for creating an atmosphere of quiet sophistication.

Whether you’re planning a bold, vibrant celebration or a soft, romantic affair, the floral color trends of summer 2025 offer endless inspiration. At our venues, we’re already seeing couples bring these palettes to life in the most beautiful ways. Let this season’s blooms guide your wedding style—and create unforgettable memories rooted in color, texture, and emotion.

Dog Wedding Chaperones: A Must-Have Trend for Your Big Day

Planning a wedding involves countless details—from choosing the perfect venue and selecting the menu to deciding whether Aunt Edna’s interpretive dance deserves a spot on the itinerary. But for dog owners, there’s another important consideration: should your four-legged fur baby be part of your big day? Do dog wedding chaperones exist?

Including pets in weddings has become increasingly popular. In fact, according to a WeddingWire survey, 38% of pet owners choose to have their furry companions involved in their celebrations. And it’s easy to see why—dogs are family, and having them by your side on such a special occasion can make the day even more meaningful. Whether they serve as the ring bearer, walk down the aisle with you, or simply pose for photos, their presence adds a personal and heartfelt touch to the event.

That said, bringing a dog to a wedding requires careful planning. Weddings can be overwhelming for pets, with large crowds, loud music, and long hours. There’s also the practical aspect to consider—asking a guest to take on pet-sitting duties means they might miss out on key moments, and managing transportation, potty breaks, and overall care throughout the event can quickly become stressful.

Fortunately, there’s a simple solution: hiring a professional wedding day dog chaperone. These experts ensure your pet is comfortable, entertained, and well cared for throughout the celebration. From handling walks and bathroom breaks to making sure your pup is photo-ready, a chaperone allows you to enjoy your wedding day without worrying about your furry friend’s needs. With the right planning and support, your beloved dog can be part of your wedding in a way that’s fun, seamless, and stress-free for everyone involved. These experts ensure your pet is well cared for throughout the celebration, allowing you to enjoy your wedding without any added stress.

Saying “I Do” to Midweek Weddings: The Hidden Perks

Why we love midweek weddings and why you should consider hosting one too!

In the world of wedding planning, Saturdays have long been hailed as the prime day for tying the knot. However, a new trend is emerging, and couples are discovering the hidden gems of midweek weddings. If you’re contemplating the perfect day for your celebration, consider the advantages of hosting a midweek wedding.

In this post, we’ll explore the all of the benefits that make midweek weddings an increasingly popular choice for couples seeking a unique and memorable experience.

So who hosts midweek weddings and why? Here’s the inside scoop revealed!

Specific Dates: Sometimes it’s a special anniversary like a first date or engagement date or grandparent’s anniversary or loved one’s birthday that has passed. Some cultures have auspicious dates that are more preferred. If it lands in midweek–don’t rule it out!

Venue Availability & Flexibility: Midweek weddings often provide greater availability and flexibility when it comes to securing your dream venue. Popular venues tend to book up quickly on weekends, but you may find more open dates and favorable pricing options for a Wednesday celebration.

Cost Savings: Hosting your wedding on a Wednesday can be a savvy financial move. Many vendors offer midweek discounts, allowing you to allocate your budget more efficiently. From venue rental fees to catering costs, you might find that your dream wedding is more affordable on a weekday.

Travel and Accommodations: Midweek weddings can be more convenient for out-of-town guests. Flights and accommodations are often more affordable midweek, making it easier for loved ones to attend and share in your joy.

Extended Celebration: While weekend weddings are limited to a day or a weekend, a midweek celebration allows for an extended wedding experience. You can plan pre-wedding activities, post-wedding brunches, and more, turning your special day into a week-long celebration.

Local Couples: If the venue is within a short drive from their home guests can attend the wedding and drive home after—or just spend one night without a multi-night stay required by the hotel (example: Friday-Saturday). Hotels usually offer lower pricing Monday-Thursday too!

Short Engagement: Some couples don’t want to wait. They want to start family planning, travel, buy a home, or have lots of weddings in the next year. They prefer a short planning window as it helps to make decisions faster. While the average length of engagements is 16 months—this is the average—some couples are engaged for 30 days and some for 10yrs—there is no timeline on your personal planning.

Vendor Availability: Securing your preferred vendors is often easier during the middle of the week. If the most important thing is a specific photographer, videographer, band or DJ and they only have certain dates open you may choose your venue and wedding date around their schedule. From photographers to florists, you’ll likely have more options and a better chance of booking your first choices for all the essential wedding services.

Unique Experiences: Some packages are only offered midweek and for smaller guest counts. At Regatta Place in Newport, RI the Schooner Aurora is a 68-passenger antique sailing yacht and can be used for a special ceremony at sea followed by dockside reception with dinner and dancing. At OceanCliff Hotel, we offer a Snowflake Winter Wedding Package that includes a complimentary ceremony, discounted guest rooms and more!

Guest Counts: It’s a great way to cut the list. The people that matter the most will always attend. We mostly see 10-20% drop off from invited to actual guest attendance.

Work Schedules: Lots of people don’t have Monday-Friday 9-5 schedules like wedding pros, hospitality pros, service providers so midweek works for them and their friends so they can work the weekends!

Final Piece of Advice—don’t rule out a venue because you think it’s outside of your budget. Reach out to your dream venue and tell them your guest count and budget then ask which options are best for you. They may guide you to a different season or day of the week or suggest a lower priced menu/bar combination. It’s also a good idea to start a conversation about what’s really important to you as a couple and as a family before you start your venue search. Firm up the budget and guest count and then determine how flexible you can be overall. Starting off with a wedding planner can also be a smart way to maximize your time and budget as they work with so many venues for local and destination planning.

Conclusion: As you embark on the journey of wedding planning, don’t overlook the advantages of hosting your celebration during the week. From cost savings to a more intimate atmosphere, a midweek wedding can offer a unique and memorable experience for both you and your guests.
